What is "thyroid cartilage"?

The thyroid cartilage, located in the neck region, is a large, shield-shaped structure that plays a vital role in protecting the underlying structures of the voice box (larynx). It is most notable for its prominence in males, creating the characteristic protrusion known as the Adam's apple.
